{"id":65086,"date":"2026-05-16T15:17:53","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T09:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/?p=65086"},"modified":"2026-05-16T15:17:53","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T09:47:53","slug":"hoshiarpur-inmate-shot-dead-after-attacking-policeman-during-medical-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/latest\/hoshiarpur-inmate-shot-dead-after-attacking-policeman-during-medical-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"Hoshiarpur inmate shot dead after attacking policeman during medical visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chandigarh: An undertrial prisoner lodged in Hoshiarpur jail was shot dead on Saturday after he allegedly attacked a police personnel with a knife during a medical visit at the Civil Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>According to police officials, the accused, identified as Naseeb, repeatedly attacked a policeman on the face and hand with a sharp weapon after being brought to the hospital for medical examination.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the situation escalated when the inmate allegedly attempted to snatch the revolver of the injured police personnel, following which retaliatory firing was carried out.<\/p>\n<p>The accused sustained bullet injuries and was admitted to the Civil Hospital in critical condition, where he later died during treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said Naseeb was lodged in jail in connection with a narcotics case and was a resident of Kotla Gaunspur village in Hoshiarpur district.
