{"id":65500,"date":"2026-05-24T19:08:37","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T13:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/?p=65500"},"modified":"2026-05-24T19:08:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T13:38:37","slug":"clash-between-inmate-groups-inside-kapurthala-modern-jail-27-booked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/punjabenews.com\/English\/latest\/clash-between-inmate-groups-inside-kapurthala-modern-jail-27-booked\/","title":{"rendered":"Clash between inmate groups inside Kapurthala Modern Jail, 27 booked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kapurthala: A violent clash broke out between two groups of inmates inside Modern Jail Kapurthala late on Saturday night, following which police registered a case against 27 prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>Three undertrial prisoners were injured during the incident, while two of them were shifted to a medical college in Amritsar after their condition turned critical.<\/p>\n<p>Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said that dangerous criminals were lodged in Barrack Number 4 of the jail and tension escalated after a clash erupted among them.<\/p>\n<p>According to the SSP, the inmates broke the gate of a staircase adjoining the barrack and climbed onto the rooftop. They allegedly set clothes and bedding on fire, creating panic inside the jail premises.<\/p>\n<p>Police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, during which four inmates sustained injuries.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about reports of inmates using mobile phones despite jammers being installed inside the jail, SSP Toora said that even police mobile phones were not functioning and the matter was being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Sources also said that some inmates allegedly attempted to manhandle jail staff during the unrest.<\/p>\n<p>Police have so far registered a case against 27 inmates in connection with the violence and further investigation is underway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kapurthala: A violent clash broke out between two groups of inmates inside Modern Jail Kapurthala late on Saturday night, following which police registered a case against 27 prisoners.
