New Delhi: Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on Sunday assumed charge as the new Chief of the Naval Staff, taking over from Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired upon completing his tenure.<\/p>\n
His appointment comes at a time when the regional maritime security environment is undergoing rapid changes and presenting new strategic challenges. Prior to taking over as Navy chief, Admiral Swaminathan served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters after assuming office, Admiral Swaminathan reaffirmed the Indian Navy\u2019s commitment to safeguarding the nation\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Indian Navy remains fully prepared to protect the country\u2019s interests wherever required. The prevailing regional security environment continues to be challenging, complex, unpredictable and uncertain, and our deployments remain highly proactive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Outlining his priorities, the new Navy chief said maintaining the highest levels of operational preparedness and combat capability would be his foremost focus.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy top priority will be to ensure that the Indian Navy maintains the highest standards of operational readiness and war-fighting capability at all times, enabling it to effectively safeguard the nation\u2019s security and economic interests under all circumstances,\u201d Admiral Swaminathan added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
