Jalandhar: An 11-member Satkar Committee constituted by Sikh organisations on Sunday met Jalandhar West ASP to seek details regarding the investigation into the alleged sacrilege incident reported recently in the Raja Garden area of the city.<\/p>\n
The committee said it held a detailed discussion with the police officer regarding the progress of the probe and expressed concern over the delay in arrests despite assurances given by the administration.<\/p>\n
The meeting comes days after Sikh organisations staged a protest against the incident. The agitation was suspended after Punjab Police assured protesters that the accused would be identified and arrested within 24 to 48 hours. However, committee members claimed that nearly 12 days had passed without any arrests, leading to growing resentment among members of the Sikh community.<\/p>\n
Members of the committee questioned the state government’s handling of sacrilege cases, recalling earlier assurances that strict action would be taken to prevent such incidents and that justice would be delivered in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege case.<\/p>\n
They alleged that despite repeated promises, sacrilege incidents continue to occur and justice remains pending in several high-profile cases. The committee further claimed that hundreds of sacrilege-related incidents had been reported across Punjab over the past several years, raising concerns about the effectiveness of preventive measures.<\/p>\n
The delegation also raised questions over the implementation of the state’s anti-sacrilege legislation, stating that concerns continue to be expressed within sections of the Sikh community regarding its effectiveness.<\/p>\n
Responding to the concerns, the ASP West assured the delegation that the investigation was being conducted seriously and that police teams were actively working to identify those responsible. He said details of the investigation would be shared once significant progress was made.<\/p>\n
The Satkar Committee appealed to Sikh congregations to remain vigilant and assured them that it would continue to remain in contact with the police administration. It said any major development in the case would be communicated to the community promptly.<\/p>\n
Among those present at the meeting were Sukhminder Singh Rajpal, Harjinder Singh Jinda, Narendra Singh Lucky, Iqbal Singh Bagga, Nihal Singh, Baghel Singh and Jatinder Pal Singh Mujail, along with other committee members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
