New Delhi: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J.P. Nadda in New Delhi, days after expressing reservations over the appointment of Kewal Singh Dhillon as the new president of the Punjab BJP.<\/p>\n
Following the meetings, Amarinder Singh shared photographs on social media and said discussions centred on issues concerning Punjab and the party\u2019s future plans in the state.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, the veteran leader said he had met Amit Shah and held detailed discussions on several matters related to Punjab. He later clarified that he had been seeking appointments with senior BJP leaders for several days and that the meetings were part of ongoing consultations on political and developmental issues.<\/p>\n
According to sources, the discussions also touched upon organisational strengthening, political strategy and preparations for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.<\/p>\n
The meetings attracted attention amid speculation over Amarinder Singh\u2019s recent criticism of the party\u2019s decision to appoint Kewal Singh Dhillon as the state unit chief. The former chief minister had publicly stated that he was not consulted before the appointment and questioned whether Dhillon was the right choice to lead the party in Punjab.<\/p>\n
The developments had also triggered speculation about Amarinder Singh\u2019s future within the BJP. However, senior party leaders have dismissed reports suggesting that he could return to the Congress.<\/p>\n
Punjab BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh said reports of Amarinder Singh leaving the BJP were baseless and maintained that the former chief minister remains firmly associated with the party.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, newly appointed Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon also held meetings in New Delhi with J.P. Nadda and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.<\/p>\n
During his interaction with the Union Health Minister, Dhillon urged the Centre to expedite the construction of the PGI Satellite Centre in Ferozepur. He said the facility would significantly improve access to advanced healthcare services for residents of Ferozepur and neighbouring districts once operational.<\/p>\n
