Lucknow: The death toll in the devastating fire at a coaching centre in Lucknow has risen to 15, while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and forensic experts on Tuesday began a detailed probe into the tragedy.<\/p>\n
An SIT comprising IPS officer Praveen Kumar and IAS officer Amrit Abhijat reached the incident site around 11 am and carried out an inspection of the building. Forensic teams also collected evidence to determine the exact cause of the blaze.<\/p>\n
The post-mortem examination of the victims continued for nearly seven hours before the bodies were handed over to their families. Emotional scenes were witnessed at the mortuary, where the mother of 30-year-old Anamika from West Bengal reportedly fainted after seeing her daughter’s body.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the investigation has revealed that the building where the fire broke out was allegedly an illegal structure. According to officials, demolition orders had been issued against the building in 2016, but the order was later revoked.<\/p>\n
Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar said a notice has been served to the building owner, seeking a reply within 15 days. He added that demolition action would be initiated against the structure.<\/p>\n
The building belongs to Virendra Shukla, owner of Rameshwaram Institute of Technology and Management College. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and arrested four accused, including Shukla.<\/p>\n
The tragedy has also triggered administrative action. Four officials of the Lucknow Development Authority have been suspended, while action against 16 other officials is under consideration.<\/p>\n
Authorities are investigating possible violations of building norms, fire safety regulations and administrative lapses that may have contributed to the incident.
