New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Special Cell has claimed to have busted an alleged ISI-backed interstate terror and arms network, arresting four accused from Punjab and Delhi for allegedly plotting a terror attack in the national capital.<\/p>\n
According to police, the accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based ISI handler Shahzad Bhatti and used foreign mobile numbers arranged by Pakistani handlers to avoid detection. Investigators said one of the accused had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of police establishments and religious places in Delhi and was assigned to execute a shooting attack.<\/p>\n
The arrested accused have been identified as Shubhdeep Singh alias Vishal (23) and Gurjant Singh alias Rishi (22), both residents of Tarn Taran; Sajan Singh alias Honey (28) from Amritsar; and Gaganpreet (24) from Fatehgarh Sahib. Three of the accused were arrested in Punjab, while Gaganpreet was apprehended in Delhi.<\/p>\n
Police said they recovered one Zigana pistol, one .30 bore pistol, nine live cartridges and five mobile phones during the operation.<\/p>\n
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi said the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based handler Shahzad Bhatti, along with his associates, was planning a terror strike in the Delhi-NCR region by recruiting youths from Punjab.<\/p>\n
Based on technical surveillance and intelligence, police conducted raids in Delhi and Punjab. The first arrest was made from Majitha Road, Amritsar, where Shubhdeep Singh was allegedly found with a semi-automatic pistol, five live cartridges and two mobile phones.<\/p>\n
During interrogation, police claimed Shubhdeep disclosed that he was in contact with Pakistan-based handlers and had been receiving arms and narcotics dropped by drones across the India-Pakistan border. He was also found to have a previous case registered under the NDPS Act.<\/p>\n
Police said Gaganpreet was arrested in Delhi on June 24, and a mobile phone containing incriminating material was allegedly recovered from him. Investigators claim he had been tasked with conducting reconnaissance of police stations, pickets and religious places in Delhi and was instructed to carry out a shooting attack.<\/p>\n
According to Delhi Police, Gurjant Singh and his cousin Sajan Singh allegedly assisted in receiving drone-delivered consignments of weapons and narcotics while remaining in contact with Pakistani handlers through foreign numbers. Police added that Sajan Singh also has a previous NDPS case against him.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing, and police are examining the accused’s alleged links with Pakistan-based operatives and the wider network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
