Chandigarh: Three days after Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Satluj was removed from the OTT platform ZEE5, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu was behind the decision.<\/p>\n
AAP General Secretary and Advisor to Punjab’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department Deepak Bali claimed he had watched the film and found nothing in it that was against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).<\/p>\n
“The film portrays the Congress in a negative light. There was no reason to stop its screening. From this, I have reached two conclusions,” Bali said.<\/p>\n
Bali alleged that the Centre’s decision to remove the film suggested that the Congress and the BJP were working together on certain issues. He further claimed that Bittu had influenced the Centre to get the film removed because it depicts events from the militancy period in Punjab, including the role of his grandfather and former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.<\/p>\n
Bali also referred to criticism surrounding a scene depicting Beant Singh’s assassination, with some critics alleging that it appeared to glorify the killing.<\/p>\n
He said AAP would raise the matter with the Central Government and write a formal letter seeking the film’s restoration.<\/p>\n
“We will urge the Centre not to block a film that highlights alleged human rights violations in Punjab at the instance of political leaders. The younger generation should know the realities of that period and the sacrifices made by human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra while exposing alleged fake encounters,” Bali said.<\/p>\n
Bali’s allegations have not been independently verified, and Ravneet Singh Bittu has not issued any response to the claims so far.<\/p>\n
Although Satluj was removed from ZEE5 within two days of its release, the film had already been downloaded by many viewers. It is now being widely shared through WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
