Government extends ban on sugar exports

New Delhi: The central government has extended the ban on export of sugar till further orders, which will continue beyond October 31. The decision has been taken with an aim to ensure availability of sugar in the domestic market during the festive season. Earlier, there was a ban on sending sugar to foreign countries till October 31.
         Earlier, there was a ban on exporting sugar to foreign countries till October 31. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification that the ban will not apply to sugar being sent to the European Union and the US. 
       Only a certain quantity of sugar is exported to these regions under CXL and TRQ (tariff rate quota). In a limited category, exporters have to obtain a license or permission from the government to send sugar to a foreign country.
