India considering to extend restrictions on parboiled rice exports, prices may rise around the world
New Delhi: The move by India to ban the export, the largest exporter of rice, could impact rice prices across the world, including Asia.
In order to curb the prices of rice in the domestic market, the NDA government is considering extending the deadline of 20 percent export duty on boiled rice.
According to Bloomberg’s report, the government can take this decision in view of the upcoming festive season and elections.
In late July, the central government had decided to impose a 20 per cent duty on the export of boiled rice in view of the rise in rice prices in the domestic market.
The decision is applicable till October 15, 2023. In such a situation, the government has to take a decision on the fee before that.
According to a media report, the government is not considering increasing the export duty to 40 percent, but it can be kept stable to 20 percent.
