Ninth US telecom company targeted by Chinese espionage: White House
Washington: The White House has confirmed that a ninth US telecommunications company has been targeted in an ongoing Chinese espionage campaign.
Hackers linked to Beijing have reportedly accessed private messages and phone conversations of unidentified Americans.
Deputy National Security Advisor Anne Neuberger revealed the latest breach on Friday, stating that hackers infiltrated telecom networks to obtain call records and access the personal communications of a limited number of individuals.
The Biden administration earlier reported that at least eight telecommunications companies across multiple countries had been compromised in a hacking campaign dubbed “Salt Typhoon.”
While efforts to mitigate the breach are ongoing, Neuberger noted that authorities are still gathering complete information about the attack.
The revelations underscore the growing threat of cyber espionage, with US officials urging heightened vigilance against such activities.
