Stock market: Investors lose Rs 7.59 lakh crore
New Delhi: Investors plunged Rs 7.59 lakh crore into the local equity market on Monday amid a weak trend in global markets due to rising tensions in the Middle East. The 30-share BSE sensex ended 825.74 points, or 1.26 per cent, lower at 64,571.88. During the day, it fell 894.94, or 1.36 per cent, to 64,502.68.
This is the fourth consecutive day of decline in the stock market. The Sensex has lost 1,856.21 points, or 2.79 per cent, in these four sessions. The broader NSE Nifty fell 260.90 points, or 1.34 per cent, to 19,281.75.
The market capitalisation (m-cap) of BSE-listed companies declined by Rs 12,51,700.73 crore to Rs 3,11,30,724.40 crore in four days amid a weak trend. On Monday alone, the market valuation of BSE-listed companies declined by Rs 7,59,041.63 crore.
Shrikant Chauhan of Kotak Securities Ltd said investors are already worried about interest rate hikes and inflation and the Israel-Hamas conflict has added to the uncertainty that has led to a decline in the stock markets.
