Case registered against former Punjab IG, two cops in 30-year-old fake encounter case
Punjab News: A case has been filed against suspended Punjab IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal and two other policemen. They stand accused of killing a person from Gurdaspur district in a fabricated encounter. Their suspension followed the submission of the final report by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Gurpreet Dev, the Special DGP and head of the SIT appointed by the High Court, submitted an affidavit to the court yesterday. The affidavit cited the investigation, stating that in the 1994 encounter where Sukhpal Singh from Kala Afgana village was killed, the FIR was filed by misrepresenting the facts.
