Clash between Punjab police-farmers midnight over transporting poclain, JCB machines; SP, SHO injured
New Delhi: Ahead of farmers march to Delhi from the Haryana-Punjab border, a clash occurred between Punjab Police and farmers 5 km before the Shambhu border, resulting in injuries to Inspector Amanpal Singh Virk, the SHO of Shambhu Border, and Jagwinder Singh Cheema, the SP of Mohali on Wednesday. Both were admitted to the hospital during the night.
The police had barricaded the area 5 km before the Shambhu border on the orders of the Punjab DGP. They had stopped the farmers from transporting heavy machinery like JCBs and Pokalen machines towards the Shambhu border.
On Tuesday, a letter was sent to the Punjab Police by the Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the farmers’ march to Delhi on Wednesday.
The Haryana Police expressed concern that the farmers had brought heavy machinery like JCBs, Pokalen machines, and Hydras, intending to use them to break through the barricades. This action would endanger not only the paramilitary personnel but also the police.
The heavy machinery, Pokalen machines, and JCBs have been modified by the farmers for use in the protest to break the barricades, posing a risk to both Haryana Police personnel and paramilitary forces. Therefore, it is recommended that these machines be confiscated, and action should be taken against those who provided them to the farmers.
