Dr Ambedkar statue vandalised in Ahmedabad, Protests erupt

Ahmedabad: A statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was vandalised in Ahmedabad’s Khokhra area early Monday morning, triggering protests by locals and followers of the Dalit icon.

The miscreants damaged the nose and glasses of the statue located in front of Sri K.K. Shastri College, police confirmed.

The incident, reported around 8 a.m., prompted the police to register an FIR under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between communities) and 298 (desecrating a place of worship with intent to insult religion) of the Indian Penal Code.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits, said Police Inspector N.K. Rabari.

Protesters gathered at the site, raising slogans and demanding swift action against the vandals. Police have assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice.

This incident follows a similar act of vandalism weeks earlier in Maharashtra’s Parbhani town, where a replica of the Constitution installed near an Ambedkar statue was damaged, leading to violent protests.
