Heroin, opium and dodas seized in separate CBSA drug busts

Ottawa: The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has seized a significant quantity of suspected narcotics in separate operations at Winnipeg International Airport and other Canadian entry points.

Officials said 14.5 kilograms of suspected dodas and opium were intercepted in two separate shipments arriving from the United States at Winnipeg airport.

The illegal shipments were headed to Edmonton, Alberta, and are estimated to be worth over $29,000. No arrests have been made in connection with this seizure so far.

In a separate case, Harvinder Singh Malhi, a resident of Ottawa, was arrested by CBSA officers in a drug smuggling investigation.

Authorities said Malhi was taken into custody after a suspicious package arrived at the airport. Laboratory tests confirmed the package contained heroin.

Malhi has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He was later released on bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on June 24.

Meanwhile, CBSA officials revealed that more than 2 kilograms of opium had been seized in a previous operation.

The narcotics had been concealed in boxes of Chyawanprash and pickles, part of a commercial shipment destined for the Greater Toronto Area.
