Indian national in US jailed for 57 months and fined $40,000 for molesting woman
An Indian manager of a motel in Georgia has been sentenced to 57 months in prison and a fine of USD 40,000 for trafficking a woman and forcing her into bonded labour. According to court documents, 71-year-old Shrish Tiwari is an Indian citizen and a legal permanent resident of the US. He began managing the Budgetel motel in Cartersville in 2020. Tiwari hired the woman in the motel and gave her a room to stay, the Justice Department said.
Tiwari knew that the victim was homeless earlier and a drug addict earlier. Her children were separated from her. Tiwari had promised the victim that he would provide her salary and an apartment and help her regain her children by providing her with a lawyer, the statement said.
Federal prosecutors alleged that instead of keeping on his promises, Tiwari began monitoring the victim’s conversations with motel guests and staff and prevented her from talking to them. Lawyers said Tiwari sexually abused the victim and often threatened to throw her out of the motel room.
