Indian-origin man in Ontario faces 16 charges for running over Police vehicle

Ontario: An Indian-origin man, Rajbir Singh, a 24-year-old resident of Brampton, has been arrested and is facing 16 charges after a confrontation with police during a vehicle theft investigation.

The incident occurred on October 6 when officers were inspecting a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel in Mississauga. The vehicle was suspected of having a fake license plate.

As police approached, Singh attempted to flee the scene, damaging a police vehicle in the process, according to a statement released by Peel Regional Police on October 11.

Singh then abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot. During his attempted getaway, he assaulted officers by spraying them with pepper spray and attempted to steal another vehicle.

Officers from the Strategic Tactical Enforcement Program sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site by paramedics.

In addition to the 16 charges related to this incident, Singh is also facing charges from five separate incidents last year, according to the police statement.
