JALANDHAR RURAL POLICE NAB TWO DRUG SMUGGLERS, SEIZE HEROIN
Jalandhar: In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Guraya police station of Jalandhar Rural district arrested two drug smugglers and seized 5 grams of heroin. The operation was carried out as part of a special campaign against social evils and drug trafficking.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kamla, wife of Vijay Kumar, and Jagiro, wife of Jaila Ram, both residents of Mohalla Langarhia, Guraya.
Divulging more details to the press media, Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said, “Acting on specific intelligence, our team apprehended Kamla on August 11, 2024, recovering 5 grams of heroin from her possession. During interrogation, Kamla revealed that she had obtained the heroin from Jagiro, who was subsequently arrested on August 12, 2024.”
SSP Khakh further elaborated that the operation was conducted under his supervision, with the support of. Jasrup Kaur Bath, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), and Swaranjit Singh, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Division Phillaur. The arrests were made by a team led by Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar, SHO of Guraya police station, along with SI Harjit Singh, in-charge of Rurka Kalan police post.
“A case has been registered against both accused under Sections 21(B), 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act at Guraya police station. We are seeking police remand of the accused to investigate further links in the drug trafficking network,” SSP Khakh stated.
He added that both accused have prior criminal records related to drug offenses. Kamla has two cases registered against her under the NDPS Act, while Jagiro has four such cases, indicating their involvement in repeated drug-related crimes.
Issuing a stern warning to drug peddlers, SSP Khakh concluded, “This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace from our society. We will continue to intensify our efforts against narcotic smuggling and distribution. Those involved in such activities will face severe consequences. We urge the public to support our initiatives and provide any information related to drug trafficking to help us create a drug-free society.”
The police are conducting further investigations to uncover more details about the source of the seized heroin and potential links to larger drug trafficking networks in the region.
