Mohali court orders vigilance to prosecute 3 cops including former SHO in corruption case
Chandigarh: The Mohali court has filed a case against Sumit Mor, former SHO of Sohana police station, Head Constable Gulab Singh, and Head Constable Malkit Singh under sections 7, 8, 9, and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as section 166 of the IPC.
Instructions have been issued to register an FIR under sections 166A, 201, 217, 218, 221, 223, 379A, and 120B. Inspector Sumit Mor stated that all the allegations against him are false. He questioned how those against whom complaints were lodged could be arrested without investigation.
He asserted that the matter had been thoroughly investigated. He intends to appeal to the High Court against the decision of the Mohali court and will present his case there.
The petition filed stated that in July 2023, an agreement was made with a person named Hardeep Singh regarding 14 acres of land in village Kambala. The complainant paid an earnest amount of Rs 25 lakh to Hardeep Singh through a cheque. The agreement was signed between them in Sohana.
Later, the complainant discovered that Hardeep Singh had deceived him as he was merely a ‘benami’ of the land mafia. On July 25, she filed a cheating complaint against Hardeep Singh at Sohana police station.
On July 27, a sub-inspector, along with Head Constables Malkit Singh and Gulab Singh, apprehended Pradeep Singh and his accomplice at the stamp seller’s shop in Sohana.
During the apprehension, some individuals recorded a video, which was then confiscated by Head Constable Gulab Singh, who subsequently deleted all the videos from the mobile phone.
When the police officers learned during interrogation that the former DGP was involved in the case, the arrested individuals were released without further action being taken.
