Punjabi truck driver in fatal crash ordered deported from Canada

Toronto: Indian-origin truck driver Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, accused in the Humboldt Broncos crash in Canada, has been ordered to be deported to India.

The decision was taken during a hearing of the Immigration and Refugee Board in Calgary today. 16 people were killed and 13 injured in the truck-bus accident.

According to Canadian media, Sidhu, a permanent resident of Calgary, had hit a bus carrying hockey club players with a truck.

16 players were killed in the accident. Sidhu was granted parole early last year and the Canada Border Services Agency had recommended his deportation.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu was convicted of dangerous driving. Sidhu was sentenced to eight years in jail in the case. He had joined the job months before the accident. The accident occurred on April 6, 2018, at the intersection of Saskatchewan Highway 335.
