Punjabi youth dies in Italy after his arm severed by machine and dumped by employer on road

New Delhi: After cutting the arm of an Indian laborer with a heavy agricultural machine, his employer, instead of seeking treatment, threw him by the roadside and fled, resulting in the laborer’s death.

While working in a vegetable field near Rome, Satnam Singh’s arm was caught in a heavy machine. The Indian Embassy in Rome said that it was aware of the incident and was assisting the family.

Satnam Singh, a resident of Punjab, 31 was living in Italy with his family and was working without legal documents. After the accident, the owner and his wife took him in a van and left Satnam on the road near his house.

Upon seeing this, the wife of the injured man screamed, and the owner of Satnam’s house came out. “I thought the van driver was helping Satnam, but later, when they started leaving the injured on the road, I ran out and asked the van driver why they did not take the injured to the hospital,” she said.

The farm owner replied that Satnam was not registered as a permanent employee and that the severed arm was in the fruit box. Satnam Singh was not treated for one and a half hours. He was eventually airlifted to a hospital in Rome but died.
