Sacrilege case: Hearing on transfer of cases outside Punjab to be held on July 28

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on February 28 a plea seeking transfer of three cases from Faridkot district related to the sacrilege incident to another state outside Punjab.

The supreme court bench has directed its registrar to place the petition seeking transfer of cases of Dera lovers in the list in the top five cases to ensure the hearing of the case on February 28.
It may be recalled that five Dera followers have demanded that three cases related to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib be transferred from Punjab to another state.
The petition filed by the Dera followers said that 11 premis, including the Dera chief, have been named as accused in three cases related to the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and two of them have been murdered, due to which they cannot pursue their cases in Punjab freely.
The supreme court has so far fixed three dates on the matter.
The counsel for the Dera premi told the court that keeping in mind the safety of the accused, the cases should be transferred to a court outside Punjab. However, the Punjab government has told the Supreme Court that those named as accused in the Dera Premi sacrilege case have been provided police protection.
