Vigilance arrests absconding middle man of motor vehicle inspector Jalandhar
Issuing vehicle fitness certificates by taking bribes without inspections
Jalandhar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday arrested absconding accused Surjit Singh, a private agent, resident of New Kalgidhar Avenue Jalandhar, who colluded with Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI), Jalandhar Naresh Kaler and were issuing/receiving fitness certificates by taking huge bribes without conducting inspection of commercial and private vehicles. The VB has confiscated a mobile and computer from the office of accused Surjit Singh.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the Bureau had conducted a surprise check in the office of MVI, Jalandhar and exposed an organized corruption on a large scale in connivance with private agents.
He informed that the VB based on sufficient evidence registered a case no 14 dated 23.08.2022 under section 7, 7A of prevention of corruption act and under section 420, 120-B of IPC at VB police station Jalandhar. In this case 7 accused were absconding and out of these Naresh Kaler, who was defrauding the government by issuing fitness certificates of vehicles has already been arrested. In addition to this, Rampal alias Radhe, Paramjit Singh Bedi and Mohan Lal alias Kalu (All private agents) have also been arrested. Further investigation of this case was under progress.
