Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI for accepting Rs 5000 bribe
Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday has apprehended Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Nachattar Singh, posted at Police Station Ajnala Amritsar district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned police personnel has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Avtar Singh, a resident of village Shamsherpur, in block Fatehgarh Churian.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has been demanding Rs 10,000 for favoring his son during the investigation of a case lodged against his son in the police station.
He further added that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap in which the said ASI was caught red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Amritsar range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
