Vigilance Bureau Nabs ASI for Taking Second Installment of Rs. 1,000 in Bribe

SBS Nagar: The Vigilance Bureau (VB) of Punjab, in its relentless fight against corruption in the state, apprehended Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Lekh Raj, posted at the Balachour Sadar Police Station in SBS Nagar district red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1,000.

  Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the accused ASI has been arrested an a complaint filed by Charn Das, a resident of Mohran village in Balachour tehsil. The complainant has approached the VB and reported that the accused police official was pressuring him to pay a bribe of Rs. 1,000 in connection with a police complaint involving his son. 

    The case pertained to a quarrel in the village, which had already been settled through a compromise. The complainant alleged to the VB that ASI Lekh Raj has demanded Rs. 5,000 as a bribe by threatening to register a police case against him and his son in this regard and has took Rs. 3,000 in advance. Now he has asked to pay an additional bribe of Rs. 1,000.

    The spokesperson further added that following a preliminary investigation into the complaint, a VB team from the Jalandhar range laid a trap and ASI Lekh Raj was apprehended red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while receiving a bribe of Rs. 1,000 from complainant.

      He informed that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
