Vigilance Bureau nabs Head Constable for taking Rs 5,000 bribe

Mohali News: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its drive against corruption in the state, on Friday has apprehended a Head Constable Avtar Singh, posted at police station Banga city, in SBS Nagar while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Rekha Devi, residing at Banga town.
He further added that the complainant lady has approached the VB and informed that a case had been registered against her son in the Banga city police station and aforementioned police personnel has been demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 to favour her son during submission of chargesheet in the court and get him free from the court this case.
The complainant further alleged that the said police personnel had already taken Rs 5,500 from her as a bribe in instalments for this motive.
The spokesperson added that after preliminary verification of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap and said accused has been arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused police personnel at VB police station Jalandhar range.
The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
