Chandigarh: Amid heading towards the lowest turnover in the Sangrur by-election, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged Elections Commission of India to extend on-hour poll time, allowing people to cast their votes on Thursday.
"We demand from the Election Commission of India that the time is for the paddy season. A lot of people have gone to work as a daily wager or other work... Please extend the voting time from 6 pm to 7 pm so that they too can exercise their right to vote as per the constitution framed by Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar, CM Mann said in a social media post in Punjabi.
Meanwhile, as per the trend, polling would hardly cross even 50% mark in till 6pm which would be the lowest turnover in Sangrur after two decades.
The constituency has recorded 29.07% polling till 3pm.
