65,960 Indians granted US citizenship in 2022
Washington: At least 65,960 Indians became US citizens in 2022, making India second only to Mexico in terms of the number of people from countries acquiring US citizenship. An estimated 46 million foreign-born people lived in the U.S. in 2022, about 14 percent of the total U.S. population of 333 million, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
Mexico has the highest number of people born who got US citizenship. After this, people from India, the Philippines, Cuba and the Dominican Republic got the highest US citizenship.
In 2022, 128878 Mexican citizens became US citizens. It was followed by India (65,960), the Philippines (53,413), Cuba (46,913), the Dominican Republic (34,525), Vietnam (33,246) and China (27,038).
As of 2023, India had 2,831,330 of US citizens of foreign origin, the second highest number after Mexico (10,638,429). It is followed by China (2,225,447).
