Man ends life due to mental stress after wife cuts ties from abroad

Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old man ended his life by hanging himself at his residence in Shakti Vihar Colony of the city on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Ravneet Singh, son of Amar Singh.

According to family members, Ravneet got married in 2018 and later sent his wife to Australia after selling his house and mortgaging gold ornaments. She had reportedly promised to call him there as well, but after reaching Australia, she severed all contact with him.

Distressed by this, Ravneet had been suffering from mental stress, the family said. On Thursday night, he locked himself in a room. When he did not respond for a long time, the family broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

A team from the police forensic department, along with Yadwinder Singh Kang, a volunteer of the Youth Welfare Society, Bathinda, reached the spot. The police have sent the body for post-mortem to the civil hospital and have begun further investigation.
