Punjabi youth alleges wife abandoned him after moving to Canada, seeks police action
Chandigarh: A man from Punjab has accused his wife of abandoning him after she moved to Canada on a study visa, demanding justice from the district police chief.
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Malhian Kalan, alleged that his wife, Navdeep Kaur, from Sahar village, married him on November 23, 2022, and left for Canada two months later. He claimed that he bore all wedding expenses and even arranged a job for her through his father’s acquaintance in Canada.
However, Gurpreet alleged that after securing employment, Navdeep distanced herself, stopped communicating, and began using abusive language. He further accused her father and brother, Gagandeep Singh, of making threats.
According to Gurpreet’s father, Nachhatar Singh, a former army officer, the family had taken loans amounting to over Rs 30 lakh to send Navdeep abroad, believing it would secure their son’s future.
He also alleged that when they visited her family to discuss the matter, they were briefly held captive and released only after police intervention.
The family has urged authorities to take action against Navdeep and her relatives.
