US deports 112 Indian nationals, special flight lands in Amritsar
Washington: A special US Army aircraft carrying 112 Indian nationals landed at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar late last night as part of the US government’s initiative to deport illegal immigrants.
Official sources said the flight arrived at around 11.30 pm. Among the deportees, 31 are from Punjab, 44 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, one each from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and two from Uttar Pradesh.
The group includes 23 women, including two from Punjab, as well as some minors.
This marks the third deportation flight from the US to India in recent weeks. Earlier, flights carrying 104 and 117 Indian nationals, respectively, were sent back.
On February 5, the first flight brought 104 Indians, including 30 from Punjab, to Amritsar. The deportees were apprehended while attempting to cross the US border illegally.
