US issues record visas to Indian students in 2023

Washington: After issuing visas to a record 140,000 students last year, the US Consulate in India is fully geared up to deal with a possible surge in applications from Indian students this year.

A senior embassy official said the estimated total number of visas this year will be equal to or more than last year. The US mission in India today celebrated its 8th annual student visa day across the country.

Consulate officials in New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai conducted interviews with student visa applicants. Long queues of students were seen at the US Embassy in Delhi since morning.

A large number of Indian students study in US universities and last year the US Consulate in India issued more than 1,40,000 student visas, more than any other country.
