Private schools to move High Court against CM Mann's decision barring schools from increasing fees in Punjab

Punjab E News (Chandigarh):- Indignant over Punjab government's decision of barring private schools to hike free during this academic session, CBSE Affiliated Schools Association (CASA) would move Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the government's recent decision.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday ordered Punjab schools against imposing any hike in school admission or tution fee.
CASA president Anil Chopra said that he has called a meeting of all private school managements against this government's unfortunate decision of not hiking fees.
"We will approach the High Court against AAP government's decision. Government is not giving us any financial aide and it has no right for interference in the functioning of schools," he said adding that amidst the rising inflation, how will school manage teachers' wages and increasing fuel charges, if they don't hike a nominal fees.
Chopra further said that it is even violation of High court's order as it recently issued directions that schools can resume/hike tuition fees from students as education institutions have started functioning normally after Covid-19 pandemic.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab and Haryana High Court has also ruled in favour of private schools in a recent judgement after a plea filed by a parent against tution fees this year.
Hearing a case filed by a parent against 10% hiked tution fees being charged by a private school amid offline classes, Punjab and Haryana High Court on February 17 this year dismissed the case and observed that schools have resumed functioning and classes are taking place, it it expected petitioner who is parent of ward, to resume payment of tuition fees, as being done during pre-Covid time.
