179 killed in South Korea plane crash; two survivors rescued
New Delhi: A devastating plane crash at South Korea’s Muan International Airport claimed the lives of 179 people, making it one of the country’s worst air disasters.
The Jeju Air passenger plane was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. Only two crew members survived and remain conscious, according to local health officials.
Rescue teams, supported by South Korea’s national fire agency, worked tirelessly to control the aftermath. The operation involved 32 fire tenders, helicopters, and approximately 1,560 personnel, including firefighters, police officers, and soldiers.
Despite their efforts, the plane was completely destroyed, with only the tail assembly identifiable from the wreckage.
Li Jeong-hyon, head of the Muan fire station, stated that investigators are examining various possibilities, including a potential collision with birds or landing gear failure.
