19th East Asia Summit: Conflicts cannot solve problems, says Modi

New Delhi: During his address at the 19th East Asia Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that solutions to global problems cannot be found on the battlefield. He highlighted the adverse impact of conflicts, particularly on countries in the Global South.

On Friday, Modi called for the restoration of peace and stability in regions like Eurasia and West Asia. He stressed that a free, open, inclusive, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific is essential for regional peace and development.

The Prime Minister also noted that peace, security, and stability in the South China Sea are crucial for the broader Indo-Pacific region.

“Our approach should be development-focused, not expansionist,” Modi stated, adding that swift restoration of peace in regions like Eurasia and West Asia is imperative. Concluding his speech,

Modi reiterated, “I come from the land of Buddha, and I have repeatedly said that this is not the era of war. Problems cannot be solved on the battlefield.”
