4 out of every 5 people with hypertension are not adequately treated: WHO report
Punjab E News: A new report by the World Health Organization (WHO) says that four out of every five people suffering from high blood pressure are not treated properly. This information has been given in the new report of the World Health Organization.
Giving details of the dangerous effects of high blood pressure, the report said that if countries expand treatment, about 76 million high blood pressure-related deaths could be prevented between now and 2050.
Improving access to treatment can prevent 120 million strokes, 79 million heart attacks and 17 million cases of heart failure over a period of time, the report said.
According to the report
The number of people with hypertension, whose blood pressure is 140/90 or higher or taking medication for high blood pressure, has doubled between 1990 and 2019 from 650 million to 1.3 billion
Half of people with high blood pressure globally are currently unaware of their condition and more than three-quarters of adults with high blood pressure live in low- and middle-income countries.
