8 Navy veterans sentenced to death in Qatar
New Delhi: Eight Indians were sentenced to death in Qatar on Thursday. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “We are shocked by the decision of the death penalty. A detailed decision is awaited.”
According to the Foreign Ministry statement, these eight people work in Qatar’s Al Dahra company.
Eight months ago, eight former Indian Navy officers were arrested in Qatar on charges of espionage. The arrest was made in September last year. All these officers have served in various positions in the Indian Navy. They are accused of spying for Israel.
“We are in touch with the family members and the legal team and are exploring all legal options. We consider this matter very important and are closely monitoring it. Will continue to provide all consular and legal assistance. The decision was also conveyed to Qatari authorities.”
