Accused in Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder case granted bail in Canada

Toronto: In a significant development, all four individuals arrested in connection with the 2023 murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada have been granted bail.

The accused, identified as Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Amandeep Singh, secured bail after the Canadian police failed to appear in court. The bail was granted under a stay of proceedings, according to court documents. The next hearing is scheduled for February 11.

Nijjar, the head of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, was killed on June 18, 2023. He was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen while sitting in his car in the gurdwara’s parking lot. The assailants fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The case has strained diplomatic ties between Canada and India, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accusing Indian agents of involvement in Nijjar’s killing. The bail of the accused has now raised fresh questions about the government’s handling of the investigation.
