After shocking exit from Olympics, Vinesh Phogat announces heartbreaking retirement from wrestling

Paris: In a surprising turn of events, India’s celebrated wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, has announced her retirement from the sport, citing heartbreak and disappointment. The announcement was made through an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), where Vinesh expressed her sorrow and gratitude to her supporters.

“Mother, wrestling won from me, I lost, sorry your dream, my courage is all broken, there is no more strength than this now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. I will always be sorry to all of you,” she wrote, signaling the end of an illustrious career that spanned over two decades.

Vinesh’s decision has left fans and fellow athletes stunned, as the 2024 Paris Olympics were expected to be a platform for her to shine once more. She had reached the finals after securing three consecutive victories. However, her Olympic journey came to an abrupt end when she was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight, a setback that seemingly contributed to her decision to retire.
