Boat accident: Indians among 8 migrants found dead near Canada border
Toronto: Canadian police have recovered the bodies of two other immigrants who drowned in the St. Lawrence River while trying to enter the United States illegally from Canada. The death toll in Thursday’s capsized boat carrying migrants has risen to eight, including members of an Indian family, police said.
According to officials, both the bodies were found in a swamp on the banks of the river near Aquasan.
One person is still missing. The deceased were believed to be members of an Indian and a Romanian family who were trying to enter the US from Canada, police said. These include two children under the age of three who are Canadian citizens.
The official said police were working with Canada’s immigration department to identify the victims and locate their relatives, the Montreal Gazette reported. Reports said the police have also stepped up vigil near the river.
