Canadian government requests documents for re-investigation of international students
Toronto: The Canadian government has issued emails to international students, requesting detailed information about their place of study, attendance, and work history. The move, initiated by the Department of Housing (IRCC), has caused significant concern among Punjabi students in particular.
While there has been no official statement from the department or the minister, sources within the IRCC described the inquiry as routine. Officials suggested that during the post-pandemic surge in student immigration, some files were inadequately vetted, potentially allowing individuals with fraudulent documentation to enter Canada. The current investigation aims to address these lapses.
An IRCC official reassured genuine students, stating that those who entered Canada through legal means and adhere to the rules have nothing to fear. However, students are urged to promptly provide the requested documents and avoid engaging with unauthorized agents.
The scrutiny is reportedly targeted at identifying cases involving illegal documents rather than impacting honest and hardworking individuals.
