Canadian MPs seek resumption of direct flights to Amritsar, write letter to Air Canada
Ottawa: In view of the population of Sikhs and Punjabis in Canada, conservative MPs have demanded Air Canada to operate direct flights between their country and the state of Punjab. In a letter to Air Canada, MPs Tim Uppal, Jasraj Singh, Bradley Weiss and Mark Strawl have called for direct flights between Canada and Amritsar to boost tourism and connect families.
It is estimated that 500,000 passengers travel from India to Toronto alone every year, most of whom are Punjabis. At present, there are no direct flights between Canada and Amritsar.
