Champions Trophy: Australia vs Afghanistan match abandoned due to rain, Australia reaches semi-finals

Lahore: The Champions Trophy Group B match between Afghanistan and Australia was called off due to rain, with both teams receiving one point each. As a result, Australia advanced to the semi-finals alongside South Africa from Group B.

From Group A, India and New Zealand had already secured their spots in the knockout stage.

Afghanistan, batting first, posted 273 runs in 50 overs, with Sadiqullah Atal scoring 85 and Azmatullah Umarzai adding a quick 67.

Umarzai’s 63-ball innings included five sixes and a four, helping Afghanistan recover from 235 for 8. In the 49th over, he struck Nathan Ellis for two sixes, including a 102-meter hit over midwicket.

Chasing 274, Australia were 109 for 1 in 12.5 overs when rain interrupted play.

Travis Head remained unbeaten on 59, while captain Steve Smith was on 19. With no further play possible, the match was abandoned.
