China deports over 2,800 nationals from Myanmar over telecom fraud
Beijing: China has deported more than 2,800 nationals from Myanmar on suspicion of telecom fraud, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Security. A total of 2,876 suspects were brought back from Myawaddy after a joint operation involving China, Myanmar, and Thailand.
The operation, launched on February 20, is being seen as a significant achievement in cracking down on cross-border fraud. China’s Ministry of Public Security described it as a “powerful operation” against foreign criminal gangs.
Last month, a Chinese court sentenced four key figures to life in prison for their roles in telecom fraud cases.
The fraud network had recruited workers proficient in languages like English and Chinese to target victims in India and other countries.
