FBI alleges Indian national involved in plot to assassinate SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannu
Washington: The US government has accused Vikas Yadav, a youth from Rewari in Haryana, of being part of a conspiracy to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a terrorist affiliated with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) residing in New York.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released a most-wanted poster of Yadav, which includes three photos, one showing him in army uniform.
Vikas Yadav, 39, a resident of Pranpura village in Rewari, is alleged by US authorities to work for India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
According to the FBI, Yadav is accused of hiring a killer to execute the assassination plot against Pannu and laundering money as part of the conspiracy.
India has responded by forming an inquiry committee to investigate the allegations but has denied involvement in the conspiracy. The US government has expressed satisfaction with India’s cooperation thus far.
The FBI poster highlights that Yadav is wanted on charges related to plotting the murder of Pannu, an Indian-American lawyer and political activist.
It is alleged that Yadav, using the alias ‘Amanat,’ provided detailed information about Pannu, including his residential address and phone number, to further the assassination plot.
He and his accomplice allegedly facilitated the delivery of $15,000 in cash to New York as an advance payment for the murder.
On October 10, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued against Yadav by the South New York District Court, accusing him of hiring an assassin, a failed murder attempt, and money laundering.
