Gukesh becomes youngest world chess champion
New Delhi: Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh has made history by becoming the youngest world chess champion at the age of 18.
Gukesh defeated reigning champion Ding Liren of China, securing 7.5 points over 14 games, compared to Liren’s 6.5 points. With this victory, Gukesh also earns a prize of $2.5 million.
This achievement breaks the record set by Russian chess legend Garry Kasparov, who became world champion at the age of 22 in 1985.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu have congratulated Gukesh on his remarkable accomplishment, calling it a proud moment for the nation.
