‘India will do what is right on taking back illegal immigrants’, says Donald Trump after call with PM Modi
Washington: US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take appropriate action on illegal immigration, adding that discussions with India on the matter are ongoing.
Trump made these remarks aboard Air Force One on Monday while returning to Joint Base Andrews from Florida.
President Trump also announced that Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit the White House in February. According to a White House readout of their phone call, Trump and Modi discussed strengthening bilateral trade ties and enhancing India-US cooperation.
Addressing House Republicans during a retreat in Florida, Trump reiterated his stance on imposing tariffs on nations he described as “high-tax countries,” including China, India, and Brazil, which he claimed harm the US economy.
The two leaders also discussed plans for Modi’s upcoming visit during their phone call. When asked if the US would accept illegal immigrants, Trump said, “He (Modi) will do what is right,” emphasizing their ongoing talks.
