Indian man sentenced to 5 years in prison for selling banned substances through dark web
Washington: A 40-year-old Indian national in the US has been sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to seize nearly USD 150 million for selling banned substances on a dark web marketplace.
The dark web internet cannot be accessed through ordinary search engines and can only be accessed through a particular web browser.
Banmeet Singh, a resident of Haldwani, was arrested in London in April 2019 on the request of the US. He was extradited to the US in March 2023. He pleaded guilty in January to charges of smuggling banned substances and money laundering.
