Joe Biden wins South Carolina Democratic primary for presidential nomination
Columbia: Joe Biden has easily won the South Carolina primary as part of the process of being re-elected as the Democratic Party’s candidate in this year’s presidential election in the US. The US presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5 and with today’s victory, Biden has crossed the first obstacle in the way of becoming a Democratic candidate.
Biden is the strongest contender to be his party’s candidate. This is the first official primary election of the ruling Democratic Party.
Biden, 81, defeated Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips and author Marian Williamson in the Carolina primary. Biden got 96.2 percent of the vote in the primary election and Williamson got only 2.1 percent of the vote. Phillips finished third.
The Republican party’s primary election in Carolina is on February 24. Former President Donald Trump, 77, is the main contender to be his party’s candidate.
